I’ve been using solid shampoo bars on and off for years, but always seem to come up with an issue that sends me back to a liquid shampoo, and let’s face it, even the organic ones seem to come in plastic bottles!
I’ve had shampoo bars that left my hair greasy, ones that never lather and seem to just drag on my hair, ones that cause dandruff (even though I’ve never had it before or after using the bar), ones from companies that act like they’re natural and use artificial colors and scents, ones that irritate my scalp, and quite a few that left my hair dull, lifeless and heavy.
After being asked by multiple customers to make my own, I figured if I could make one that satisfied my needy hair and scalp, it might work well for everyone else!
After years of experimenting with ingredients, testing batch after batch on my own hair and using my friends and family as Guinea Pigs, I’ve finally settled on my Gibbous Moon Shampoo Bar recipe!
For my solid shampoo bar, I use a blend of vegan, PH balanced, biodegradable, sensitive skin ingredients, including a whipped olive oil and concentrated calendula extract for added softening and shine. This blend will leave your hair: soft, voluminous and manageable. I love how it brings out definition in my wavy hair while never weighing it down.
My shampoo bars are detergent free (that means no Lye or Sodium Laurel Sulfates), but still richly lather, gently leaving your hair and scalp super clean and free of build-up.
This bar is scented with a delectable blend of essential oils and all natural fragrance oils and the beautiful pale orange tone comes from sustainable mica.
This is a hefty 4oz bar.
Packaged in recyclable mixed paper packaging. 100% plastic free.
Never used a shampoo bar before? It’s really easy! Just saturate your hair with water, then rub the bar all of your scalp and roots. Make sure to get any places that are prone to oil (temples, crown, back of neck), then massage your scalp to really lather up and remove any build up. Once you’re all lathery, feel free to pull any excess lather from your roots through the length of your hair. There’s no need to rub the bar on the length or ends of your hair (I have long hair and I never do). As soon as you’ve finished that, rinse your hair very thoroughly and repeat the process if you’d like (if you wait multiple days between washes or use lots of mousse/products, it’s always good to wash twice as with normal shampoos). Finally, feel free to apply your normal conditioner, deep conditioner, hair mask or leave-in conditioner.
If you have any questions or would like more tips on how to use shampoo bars etc, please feel free to message me and ENJOY!
